Donation by Dato’ Lee Swee Ann to UTAR Hospital

Dato’ Lee Swee Ann’s parents, Lee Nung (1924-1991) and Tor Giek Lan (1928-2009), hailed from Kajang, Selangor. They worked as rubber tappers during their younger days and with the meagre income earned, the couple had to bring up a family of 15, including both of them. Life was difficult then.

Dato’ Lee is the 8th child among the 13 siblings. Due to poverty in the family, he did not complete his lower secondary education and left school at a very tender age. He then started work to help support the family. Over the years, with true grit and effort, step by step from being a tyre shop apprentice, he became the owner of a tyre business, and eventually became a building contractor. Since the year 2000, and armed with all the years of experience gained as a building contractor, he seamlessly moved into housing development. Currently, his flagship development known as Bangi Avenue is situated not far from Bandar Baru Bangi, occupying an area of five hundred plus acres.

As he dropped out of school early, Dato’ Lee placed great importance on education and in nurturing the future generations. His conviction in the value of “Giving Back to Society” has influenced him in making numerous donations to Yu Hua primary and secondary schools in Kajang for the schools’ expansion and rebuilding projects. He also single-handedly financed and built one block of office/classroom and a covered basketball court for SJK(C) Bangi in Bangi New Village, which is contiguous to Bangi Avenue.

In China, he also single-handedly financed and built in his ancestral village of Fushou in Anxi County, a block of classroom and a hostel block. In 2023, he donated part of the costs of construction for a brand-new sports field for Qianjin Middle School in Anxi County, China.

Dato’ Lee’s donation to UTAR and his various contributions for public welfare and education are indeed praiseworthy and commendable.
