The Malaysian Chinese Language Council (MCLC) organised a charity dinner at HGH Convention on 26 June 2022, and successfully raised a total of RM4,150,000 for UTAR Hospital which is owned by the UTAR Education Foundation. Datuk Eddie Heng Hong Chai, who is President of the Malaysian Chinese Language Council and Chairman of the Management Committee of HGH Convention Centre, presented the mock cheque together with the donors at the dinner.
Gracing the charity dinner were Deputy Minister of Education I, Ministry of Education Malaysia Senator YB Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, Datuk Eddie Heng Hong Chai, UTAR Chancellor Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and his wife Toh Puan Ena Ling, UTAR Hospital Board Chairman Ir Academician Emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, UTAR Education Foundation Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Sak Cheng Lum and Puan Sri Sak, UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, and distinguished donors.
The event also witnessed performances by various artists. One of the performances includes a special choir performance by “爱心合唱团”led by Toh Puan Ena Ling, with UTAR Education Foundation BOT Chairman Tan Sri Sak Cheng Lum, as one of the guitarists. Toh Puan Ena Ling, her choir members and the guitarists have graciously performed at many charity events and helped raised funds for various charities. Tun Dr Ling joined the choir in one of the renditions. In addition, Datuk Eddie Heng Hong Chai, Tan Sri Chuah Hean Teik and Prof Ewe Hong Tat also joined in the choir to perform for the charity. Having the UTAR Chancellor Tun Dr Ling and Toh Puan and the UTAR Education Foundation BOT Chairman Tan Sri Sak perform on stage for charity, made the dinner event even more meaningful and memorable.
Since the objective of the event was to raise funds for UTAR Hospital, the tables were priced between RM5,000 to RM500,000 with the money raised for UTAR Hospital.
